Wine tasting note: 1998 Umani Ronchi Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC 'Jorio'

1998 Umani Ronchi Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC 'Jorio'

2nd Nov 2000 ITL17500 Tuscany Table Red

Deep ruby to pink/ruby at rim - looks immature but concentrated. Not much on the nose yet - some slightly dank, deep inky aromas of berry fruit - lurking. Full bodied with chewy plum/redcurrant fruit, tobacco, oak and applepip flavours; lively acidity and firm tannins. Dries out a bit on a long, evolving, charcoal and cigar finish. Warming with plenty of alcohol, this is serious stuff and great value but needs two to three years or a steak.
